Sound Check: Airboat vs. Pontoon
We brought a decibel meter on our recent tours. Here is the data.
🚁 Airboat: The Roar
- Idle: 80 dB (Like a lawnmower)
- Full Throttle: 100-115 dB (Like a rock concert or chainsaw)
- Protection: MANDATORY. All legitimate operators provide noise-canceling earmuffs.
- Communication: Impossible while moving. The guide will stop the boat to talk.
🛥️ Pontoon: The Whisper
- Cruising: 60-70 dB (Normal conversation)
- Protection: None needed.
- Communication: Easy. The guide uses a microphone and PA system.
Recommendation
If you have sensitive hearing, tinnitus, or infants, skip the airboat. The pontoon is a much more acoustic-friendly experience.
